The MPX SPT-3 self-priming trash pump is ideal for pumping viscous liquids as users can install it above fluid level and the pump can remove the air above the fluid without manual priming. It is fast, efficient, and runs smoothly even if the liquid supply isn't continuous. Even so, it does need minimal maintenance and repair in order to run as it should. The volute, also known as the pump casing, plays an integral role in enabling the pump to work properly. It should be replaced at the first sign of cracks or other forms of damage, as a damaged volute will result in a decrease in pressure levels in the pump, which can ruin the pump's bearings and seals.

The MPX SPT-3 volute pump converts liquid velocity to pressure as the liquid is discharged through the casing nozzle. It's designed for MPx pumps and weighs 250 lbs. Its large size enables the pump to automatically reprime without the use of suction or discharge check valves. What's more, thanks to the volute's efficient design, users can repair or service the bearings and/or pump shaft without disturbing the pump casing.
Pumps using this volute can handle spherical solids up to .75 cm in size. The impeller measures 8 3/4 inches across and the pump weighs 425 lbs. MPx SPT-3 pumps have between 650 and 2150 rotations per minute (RPM), depending on the model chosen.
